The following in a listing of the size, content, weight and U.S. Government backing, and all gold proof coins available. This information is accurate, as the source is the United States Mint, who creates the coins.

All American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are legal-tender and contain 91.67% (22 kt) gold. The difference from the 91.67% to 100% relate to the additional alloys needed to harden the coin. Gold alone is too soft.

Coins are available in one ounce, half-ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce. Each coin denomination will affect the size, and weight of the gold coins.

* The one ounce coin carries a $50 face value, is 1.287 inches in diameter, contains one gold troy ounce and weighs 1.0909 troy ounces.

* The one-half ounce coin has a $25 face value, is 1.063 inches in diameter, contains 0.5000 gold troy ounces and weighs 0.5455 troy ounces.

* The one-quarter once coin has a $10 face value, is 0.866 inches in diameter, contains 0.2500 gold troy ounces and weighs 0.2727 troy ounces.

* The one-tenth ounce coin carries a $5 face value, is 0.650 inches in diameter, contains 0.1000 gold troy ounces and weighs 0.1091 troy ounces

Note: a Troy ounce is a unit of weight for precious metals. One troy ounce equals 1.09711 ounces or 31.103 grams.

Each American Eagle Gold coin is backed by the U.S. Government for weight and content. All coins carry the same design, and feature the Lady Liberty with flowing hair carrying an olive branch. The rear design features the male eagle carrying an olive branch.
